CubeCracker · Privacy policy

The camera reads your cube — and that's it.

Last updated 24 October 2026

The short version
  • The camera works entirely on your device. We read the colours of your cube and never upload or store the picture.
  • CubeCracker is free and ad-supported through Google AdMob, and uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used.
  • Your solve stats and milestones stay on your phone.
  • We never sell your data.

Who we are

CubeCracker (package com.cubecracker.app) is published by Zebra Designs ("we", "us"), the controller of the personal data described here. Contact us at [email protected].

The camera

CubeCracker uses your camera for one thing: pointing it at each face of your Rubik's cube so the app can read the colours and work out a solution. All of this happens on your device. We do not upload, save or transmit the camera image, and no photo is written to your gallery. If you prefer, you can skip the camera entirely and enter the colours by hand.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

CubeCracker is free and supported by ads delivered through Google AdMob. To show ads, Google's advertising SDK may collect and process device information and identifiers — including a device advertising ID, approximate information such as general location derived from your IP address, and app interactions — as described in Google's policies.

  • In the UK and EEA, we show a consent prompt the first time you open the app. Your choice decides whether you see personalised or non-personalised ads.
  • You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device's settings (Settings → Privacy / Ads).

See How Google uses data from AdMob and the Google Privacy Policy.

Analytics (Firebase)

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how CubeCracker is used in aggregate — things like how often the app is opened and which features are used — so we can improve it. This uses a Firebase installation identifier and basic device and usage information. It is not linked to your name or an account, because CubeCracker does not have accounts.

Purchases

If CubeCracker offers an in-app purchase, payment is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We receive confirmation that a purchase is valid so we can unlock the relevant feature. We never see your card details.

Your stats

Your solve count, fewest-moves record and milestones are stored locally on your device so the app can show your progress. They are not uploaded to us. Uninstalling the app removes them.

What we don't collect

We don't ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts or photo library, and we don't request precise GPS location. Beyond the advertising and analytics described above, we don't build a profile of you, and we never sell your data.

Legal basis & your rights

Where required under UK and EU GDPR, advertising and analytics that rely on device identifiers are processed on the basis of your consent, which you can change at any time through the in-app prompt and your device settings. Running the core app and remembering your purchases is performance of a contract. You have the right to access, delete or object to the processing of your personal data — email [email protected] and we'll respond within one month. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local EU data protection authority.

Children

CubeCracker is a general-audience app and, because it contains advertising, is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
